If you’re waiting for permission to follow me, this is that permission. You don’t need to talk to me, you can just push the button if you want. Or don’t. I’m good either way.
In the wake of Crab Day, and if it has turned out to be the success we hoped, I’d like to propose @staff do two things for the userbase so that we know how much we need to pitch in to keep the lights on around here.
Publish, somewhere super obvious, how much is your annual budget that you have unaccounted for so that we know what goal to shoot for with Crab Day type donation drives. I don’t mind pitching in to keep the site running, but the clearer the goal is, the easier it is to meet. Particularly if you can break that down with how much you already have of that amount accounted for in ad-free subscriptions, gifts, merch, badges, and Blazes. Genuinely, don’t keep this secret.
Let us know a good point in your fiscal year to hold Crab Day or a similar donation drive. July 29 was a nice organic day this time around, but perhaps that’s not the best day going forward. Let us know this.
If the userbase knows these things in advance, we can plan the best ways to help y'all out.
EDIT: As with so many things in my drafts, this got lost for a few years. However, as Crab Day this year was only a few years ago, and neither of these things have happened, @staff, I am still recommending these changes.
A: it means the narrator is lying to us at all times.
B: it means the entire narrative is fabricated
C: it means the narrator’s own narrativisation of events contradicts information about in-world events that the person watching/reading receives over the course of the drama, whether because of their innocence, their personality, or their bias
D: A narrator whose subjectivity colours the framing of events in a story in a way that is deliberately employed by the author
E: A narrator whose narration is differentiated from that of the omniscient creator who is constructing the text, establishing a meaningful difference, therefore, between an objective reality and a subjective one in the storyworld
I’m aware that some of these definitions are not entirely as differentiated as they could be & there probably could be better simplified definitions available, but I’m curious about how people think intuitively abt the term unreliable narrator.
something just occurred to me about country folk and the whole gun thing. i live near a city up north where there’s way more violence and a necessity to protect your home and family. if people living in those conditions are able to recognize why we need gun control, why can’t people living in sunny remote areas where folks just have good old-fashioned proper manners recognize it? like, billy bob what are you protecting your family from? your neighbor’s brisket? tennessee’s weird fascination with four leaf clover highways? sally mae droppin’ by just to say “bless yer heart”?
they need guns because of “cityfolk” who dehumanize them and try to strip them of their rights and means to self defense
why won’t these dumb hicks agree to give up their guns???
just shut up
haha classism and regionalism is funny because I want to oppress people until they fit to my rigid and inexperienced worldview. fuck off OP.
^
Guy really said, “everybody is violent near me and we have no guns, everybody is nice down there and they have guns” and couldnt make the connection
Also, the Southern US is the center of methamphetamine addiction in the country. That ought to tell you enough.
Shit’s not all sunshine and roses down here miss @catsalads. I should know, I live here. Maybe come down off that ivory tower sometime and walk in the dirt.
A naked man wandered on to my cousin’s property high as fuck and my cousin had to hold him at gunpoint until the cops came to pick up his crazy ass. Like, shit happens. And when it does you’re usually alone.
I work for a 911 center and we have a lot of rural country in our county. When our units floor it, lights-and-sirens, hell-for-leather down an open road with light traffic, there are lots of addresses it still takes them twenty minutes to reach. And I love our units and think they are wonderful. They do good work. But distance is distance and time is time.
A few months ago, I noticed we were getting a lot of reports about a man who was exposing himself to people at a local park in the mornings. On a nearby street, we were also getting reports of a man who was groping women and attempting to hustle them off somewhere, presumably to rape them, mainly shortly after full dark came on at night. My initial thought was that it might be the same guy given that the pattern was occurring kind of around the same areas, covered sex-related offenses, and were public or semi-public.
Our police (because they are wonderful and do good work) worked these reports and arrested two separate perverts. It wasn’t just one threat, it was two. And if Groper Guy had actually managed to haul any of his targets off somewhere, the cops would never have heard about it until it was all over and who knows if his victim would still be breathing by then.
Florida lawmakers have passed a bill that would allow the death penalty to be enacted on convicted pedophiles.
The Florida House passed HB1297 by a 95-14 vote late Thursday. The legislation will allow rapists of children under the age of 12 to be sentenced to execution without jury unanimity.
Not to care too much about celebrities but I’m genuinely shocked and embarrassed by the rumour I just saw.
Apparently Katy Perry went to dinner with Justin Trudeau who was seen at her concert?
I mean they are both cringefail so…. sure I guess? But man is that embarrassing for Canada.
Katy Perry is also married to Orlando Bloom? Who cheats on Legolas with a wet noodle like Trudeau???
EDIT: apparently she divorced him last month? Wow.
Yeah I always thought it was weird she was married to Legolas until I realized… Im pretty sure she and Orlando are probably both into weird spiritualism stuff like manifesting and tarot idk.
I thought it was a weird match too, TBH. But I figured if they were making it work, then who was I to cry weird?
Somebody who was right the first time, apparently, that’s who.
